Matariki is a time to reflect on the year that has been, celebrate the people who make our communities stronger, and look ahead with hope for the future. The Trusts was honoured to be invited to attend the 2026 Fair Food Matariki Awards.
Hosted by Fair Food, the event recognised the incredible contribution of the volunteers, supporters, partners, donors and organisations who help make its kaupapa possible. Fair Food’s mission is all about rescuing quality surplus food, reducing waste, and redistributing it to people who need it most. This important mahi is made possible through the collective effort of people and organisations working together to ensure good food goes to people, not landfill.
A highlight of the evening was Fair Food’s own Matariki Awards, which celebrated the hard mahi, generosity and commitment of those who have supported the organisation throughout the year. Awards recognised outstanding contributions across a range of areas, including food donors, community partners, volunteers and supporters who have gone above and beyond to help strengthen Fair Food’s impact in the community.
The evening itself was a true celebration of Matariki. Guests were treated to spectacular fire performances by Tahi Mana, while an incredible hāngī brought everyone together over kai and kōrero. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the collective impact being made across our communities, and we certainly left with both full bellies and full hearts.
The Trusts is also proud to support Fair Food through our Your West Support Fund 2026 Programme, helping the organisation continue its vital work supporting local whānau. Fair Food’s commitment to creating stronger, more connected communities aligns closely with our own vision for The West.
We continue to be inspired by the way this kaupapa brings people together in service of others. Events like the Fair Food Matariki Awards highlight the power of community collaboration and the difference that can be made when people unite around a shared purpose.
Congratulations to all those recognised on the night, and ngā mihi nui to everyone who contributes to Fair Food’s incredible mahi.
