Crescendo runs free music mentoring programmes for rangatahi aged 15 to 24 from their home at Te Puna Creative Hub on Henderson Valley Road. Around 180 young creatives take part each year, learning songwriting, music production, audio engineering and live performance from professional musicians who have done the hard yards in the industry.
Small classes, an informal vibe and 10-week programmes timed with school terms mean it works well for young people who haven't thrived in a traditional classroom. Every programme wraps up with a graduation showcase where participants perform their own original work.
A $10,000 grant from the latest Your West Support Fund and the support of events like our NZ Music Month pop up will help keep those programmes free for more rangatahi in The West.

A food forest is taking root in Massey thanks to a crew of dedicated volunteers.
Triangle Park Community Teaching Garden is expanding into 830 square metres of neighbouring parkland to create a food forest, where fruit trees, shrubs, herbs and other edible plants grow together the way they would in nature. Over time it will provide healthy kai while supporting biodiversity and healthier soil. A recent planting day laid the groundwork, and fruit trees go in early spring.
The garden also delivered more than 140 free workshops, masterclasses, working bees and events last year, covering everything from composting to pruning to soil health.

The team at Glen Eden Tennis Club are throwing open the gates for their annual LOVE TENNIS Open Day, and everyone is welcome.
Sunday 13 September, 10.00am to 2.00pm, 42 Glendale Road, Glen Eden.
All ages, all abilities, no experience needed. The club has spare rackets and tennis balls, and their coaches will be on court to hit a few balls with you. There are free Little Lato Gelato giveaways, prizes on court, and you can enter the draw to win tickets to the ASB Classic in January 2027.
