In Avondale, a shared meal, a board game or a hot breakfast before school can change someone's whole week.
@ILoveAvondale is behind all three. Last year Kai Avondale's monthly Feed the Streets community meal was enjoyed by 4,160 locals, the Free Guys social pantry gifted 6,240 food parcels and 5,760 ready-to-eat meals, and more than 10,000 before-school breakfasts were served to tamariki at Te Kura o Pātiki- Rosebank School, Avondale Their newest addition, Keep Young & Play Games, is a Friday morning drop-in where seniors can enjoy cards, chess or a board game over a cuppa and a biscuit.
'A lot of people in our community are doing it tough right now. I don't think a lot of what we offer is a nice to have, as for many it's essential,' says Director Katy Galo.

When whānau leave a violent relationship, they often leave with nothing. Woven Earth provide the beds, tables, chairs, washing machines, fridges, bedding, towels and cutlery that turn four bare walls into a safe place to start again.
Last year the team furnished 189 homes, and 36 per cent of them were right here in The West, making it their biggest area. They work alongside 29 frontline agencies out this way, including New Zealand Police, Manaaki Tāngata - Victim Support , Visionwest Community Trust and Women's Refuge New Zealand.
Woven Earth received $20,000 from the 2026 Your West Support Fund to help cover the everyday operating costs of keeping the service running.

Head to Te Atatū Peninsula Community Centre on a Sunday and you will find tamariki juggling, tumbling and swinging from aerial hoops and trapezes. 🎪
Te Kura Maninirau is Aotearoa's first kaupapa Māori circus school, created by The Dust Palace and Te Pou Theatre Māori kaiako lead every class and each term explores a different area of mātauranga Māori.
Classes run on a koha basis, so cost is one less thing standing between a kid and something brand new. Around 60 tamariki take part each week, with another 40 to 50 on the waiting list.
