Bethells Beach Surf Life Saving Patrol is recruiting volunteers for the 2026/2027 summer season, and they’d love some new faces on the team. As one of the busiest rescue beaches in Aotearoa, the patrol plays a vital role in keeping locals and visitors safe through the warmer months. Their volunteer surf lifeguards and patrol support guards are the people who make that possible, week in and week out.

The crew at Bethells Beach Surf Life Saving Patrol is a mix of rangatahi, parents, and people in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. You don’t need to be an elite swimmer or have any prior experience. If you want to learn to patrol and develop real skills, there’s a place for you.

Volunteers come away with proper qualifications, new ways to enjoy the beach and surf, and a tight, welcoming crew who care deeply about what they do. The minimum age to patrol is 14, so it’s a great option for older teens, families wanting to do something meaningful together, or anyone in The West looking for a new way to give back this summer.

Training kicks off in term three, on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30pm at West Wave in Henderson. Spaces fill fast, so if you’re even a little bit curious, now’s the time to get in touch.
