The Graeme Dingle Foundation has just launched Move Mountains for Youth, a nationwide fundraising campaign inviting New Zealanders, and anyone around the world who wants to join in, to take on a personal challenge and turn every kilometre into support for young people across Aotearoa. Inspired by Sir Graeme Dingle’s legendary mountain adventures, the kaupapa is simple: walk, run, climb, bike or move in your own way, and let your effort raise funds for something bigger than yourself.
The Graeme Dingle Foundation has spent decades working alongside tamariki and rangatahi to help them build confidence, resilience, life skills and self-belief through positive youth development programmes. The Foundation works with young people from all walks of life, and the work they do here in Tāmaki Makaurau, including right across The West, is a big part of why so many local rangatahi are thriving today.
Funds raised through Move Mountains for Youth go directly into those programmes. Every dollar helps the Foundation reach more young people with the kind of mentoring, outdoor experiences and life skills training that can shift the course of someone’s life.
The beauty of this campaign is that anyone can take part. You don’t need to be an athlete, and you don’t need to summit Aoraki. A walk along Te Henga, a bike ride through the Waitākere Ranges, a few extra laps around your local park, it all counts. You can take on the challenge solo, rope in your whānau, or get your workplace or sports club involved.
For those who’d rather cheer from the sidelines, donating to a participant or to the campaign directly is just as valuable.
