Zeal West Auckland is inviting 200 rangatahi to take part in the Whau to Hendo Photo Scavenger Hunt for an afternoon adventure across The West. Running on Friday 19 June from 3pm to 6pm, the event will see teams of three to five young people travel from New Lynn through to Henderson, completing fun challenges, capturing moments, and discovering local spaces along the way.
Zeal is a youth development organisation that creates safe, creative spaces for young people to explore who they are and what they’re capable of. Their work across Aotearoa is grounded in the belief that every young person deserves to feel seen, supported, and part of something bigger.
Starting at New Lynn Memorial Square and finishing at Zeal West in Henderson, rangatahi will move between key locations including Railside Ave and Catherine Plaza, taking part in activities ranging from interactive games and creative photo challenges to sports and live activations. Once teams reconvene at Zeal, the afternoon wraps up with food, music, and prizegiving.
The scavenger hunt is designed to reflect the spirit of Matariki, a time to explore, connect, and reflect. Whether it’s capturing a team moment inspired by the Matariki stars, sharing what they’re proud of, or simply enjoying time with friends, rangatahi will be encouraged to celebrate both where they’ve come from and where they’re heading next.
The Trusts is proud to support this mahi through our Your West Support Fund 2026, helping to create meaningful, youth-led experiences right here in The West. Backing events like this ensures our young people have access to safe, engaging spaces that encourage movement, creativity, and connection during important cultural moments like Matariki.
With activations, live energy, and a strong focus on youth wellbeing, the Whau to Hendo Photo Scavenger Hunt is set to be a highlight of the Matariki calendar.
