The familiar chill in the air signals the approaching winter, and with it, the launch of Give a Kid a Blanket’s 11th annual Winter Campaign on May 1st! Since their beginnings in the winter of 2015, GaKaB has grown into a vital community of kindness, powered by your generous donations and the incredible dedication of their volunteers.
There are many in our communities that are feeling the financial strain, which makes the support GaKaB provides to vulnerable individuals and families facing crisis even more critical. Last winter, your generosity helped GaKaB to reach 5,165 people (a significant increase from 4,371 in 2023), and it’s anticipated an even greater need this year.
We’re helping spread the word for GaKaB and asking the community for your support in any way you can contribute:
- Donate Quality Pre-loved Items: GaKaB need blankets and warm essentials in excellent condition. Find over 50 drop-off locations during May and June, and 34+ year-round at Give a Kid a Blanket.
- Spread the Word Online: Share their Facebook and Instagram pages and direct people to their website: giveakidablanket.co.nz.
- Involve Schools: Encourage your child’s school to host a GaKaB collection (information below).
- Engage Your Workplace: Promote GaKaB at your work or to local businesses (resource below).
- Make a Financial Donation: Support our efforts directly through the GaKaB website (tax deductible!).
- Share the Flyer: Help raise awareness by sharing the below flyer.
