Tokos Tacos are bringing the best of modern Mexican cooking to The West. This Tongan-owned taqueria has shot up the rankings in Auckland foodie scene with their simple and perfectly executed menu.
The Fonua family kicked off their taco journey over 15 years living in Arizona before moving back to NZ. After bringing that authentic Mexican flavour to the Henderson night markets the family run operation has now found their new home on Great North Road in Avondale.
The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Birria Tacos, a messy and mouth-watering specialty of slow-cooked beef and pork served with a delicious consommé for dipping, lemon and optional hot sauce.
Make sure you check out their fish tacos and margarita mocktails and elote too! The friendly service is fronted with huge heart by Ben Fonua but you’re sure to see more of the family behind the counter with Ben’s whole whānau getting involved!
