On Sunday 21 June students from across the region gathered at Glen Eden Intermediate School to compete in the West Auckland RoboCup Junior robotics competition.

Delivered by Ministry of Inspiration, RoboCup Junior is an internationally recognised robotics programme that challenges young people to design, build and code robots capable of completing complex tasks. Students compete across a range of categories including Rescue, Theatre and Soccer, developing skills in coding, engineering, teamwork, creativity and critical thinking along the way.

The Trusts is proud to support this kaupapa through the Your West Innovation Fund 2026, which has invested in Ministry of Inspiration’s expansion of STEM learning opportunities across The West, including RoboCup Junior and other hands-on technology programmes. Through this funding, more local schools and rangatahi are being given access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) experiences that inspire curiosity and build future-ready skills.

Events like RoboCup Junior provide opportunities for rangatahi to explore new ideas, gain confidence and discover passions they may carry into future careers. Whether they become engineers, programmers, designers, entrepreneurs or community leaders, the skills being developed today will help shape a stronger and more innovative future for The West.

It’s inspiring to see so many young people in Glen Eden and across the region embracing STEM learning with enthusiasm and imagination. Ministry of Inspiration is creating meaningful pathways for rangatahi to explore technology, innovation and creativity, and we’re grateful to play a small part in backing that mahi.
