The Trusts Live is a new video series shining a light on local musicians and the places that shape them.

In this episode Sam Cullen and Jessie Booth, take over the rooftop of Lopdell House to perform three original songs and talk about growing up in The West, the legacy of Bruce Springsteen, The Killers, Sam Fender, and The War on Drugs. Expect big-hearted rock with pop instincts and a streak of nostalgia running through it.

‘I grew up here and I moved around a lot, but it was always in the West,’ Jessie says. ‘It’s a very relaxed and creative environment and it’s a little bit rough around the edges, but that’s kind of the charm to it. The community has definitely influenced me as an artist.’

Performing on a rooftop with the Manukau spread out behind them wasn’t lost on Sam either. ‘It flashes me back to U2’s Where The Streets Have No Name music video. I grew up watching that with my dad on the couch. I feel like we’re doing the same thing.’

Sam’s most recent album is out now and his new EP and tour dates coming soon.
