The Trusts Live is a new video series shining a light on local musicians and the places that shape them. Episode one drops today, with Na’amah at Cornwallis Beach.

The series has been made in partnership with Dave Parker, pioneer of the Titirangi Music Festival, and launches during NZ Music Month, the 26th edition of which centres on the theme ‘Our Sounds, Our Spaces.’ Hard to think of a better fit.

Each episode features original songs, performed live in stunning and iconic locations across The West. Then a conversation with the artist about their music, their connection to this part of the city, and what they’re working on next.

For Na’amah, who opens the series at Cornwallis, the connection to The West inspires creativity. ‘I come out here when I need to clear my head and go for a walk,’ she says. ‘I’ve written songs up in the Waitākere Ranges. So that’s my connection here.’

Her set includes ‘Ilana’s Song’, a song she wrote for her mum’s birthday about the last house they lived in together. ‘When I played it for her, I didn’t even get through the first verse. We were both just crying. And now when I play, I still end up crying. Maybe it’s just my songs, but they ache a little bit. That’s how I describe my music.’

Check back in over the coming weeks to see more incredible local talent and local scenery on display.

Episode one is live now.
