West Auckland was rocking last weekend as Glass Ceiling Arts Collective brought their high-energy production of Rock of Ages to Te Pou Theatre at the Corban Estate Arts Centre. From the first guitar riff to the final bow, the show was a joyful celebration of youth, music, and community spirit.

This special version of Rock of Ages has been adapted for young performers, a fast-paced, family-friendly take on the 80s rock musical classic. What really stood out wasn’t just the talent on stage, but the incredible sense of community in the audience. Families, friends, and neighbours filled the theatre with cheers and laughter, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a shared celebration than a performance. Watching these young people shine was truly inspiring. Each performer brought passion, confidence, and individuality to their role, showing just how transformative access to the arts can be.

For many of these young actors, this was their first time performing in a professional theatre setting, and the pride was palpable. We were proud to help fund Glass Ceiling Collective through our 2025 funding round. Seeing Rock of Ages come alive on stage was a perfect reminder of why these investments matter. Glass Ceiling Arts Collective continues to break barriers and create inclusive pathways for youth in the performing arts. Their dedication to providing opportunities for all young people, regardless of background or ability, is exactly what makes the West such a vibrant place to live.

To the cast, crew, and community who made Rock of Ages a show to remember, a massive congratulations! You’ve shown once again that when Westies come together, we create something truly special.
