This September marks 10 years since English Language Partners (ELP) set up home in New Lynn! Even better, their 10th birthday lines up with the Festival of Adult Learning – Ahurei Ākonga 2025 (8–14 September).

It’s a nationwide week that shines a light on the amazing efforts of adult learners everywhere, helping people gain the skills and confidence they need to fully take part in life here in Aotearoa. So, they’re throwing open their doors and inviting you to come see what they do. Think of it as an “open house with heart”, a chance to step into their world, try something new, and celebrate alongside us.

Here’s what’s on:

Friday 12 September – Learn English with ELP

• 1:00–2:30pm: Taster English Lessons (dip your toes in and see how ELP teach!)

• 2:30–3:30pm: English Conversation Club (a fun way to connect and chat) Saturday 13 September – Volunteer with ELP

• 1:00–2:00pm: Experience what it feels like to be preliterate • 2:00–3:00pm: The refugee journey & how ELP teach English

• 3:00–4:00pm: Volunteer afternoon tea & catch-up

They’ll also be handing out special certificates to learners who have made incredible progress this year, a moment that always brings out big smiles (and maybe a few happy tears!).

Whether you’re a current learner, a volunteer, a friend, a family member, or just curious about what ELP do, they’d love to see you there. These events are for adults only, but they’re open to everyone in the community.

Come celebrate lifelong learning, meet some inspiring people, and help ELP mark 10 amazing years in New Lynn. Check out the full event details on Facebook
