With around 16,000 visitors annually, Titirangi Community House is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant hub that brings residents together and promotes a sense of belonging and community.
‘We provide a range of classes, events, and activities to foster learning, social interaction, and knowledge sharing,’ says Manager Bev Mossop. In addition, the community house offers affordable room hire for community groups.
There’s an extensive range of activities on offer. From yoga and Italian to music therapy, creative writing, sign language, and much more, there’s something for everyone. Bev says that with around 20 different activities happening weekly, there’s always something new and exciting to try.
Titirangi Community House also hosts special events throughout the year to bring locals together. Recent examples include partnering with Age Concern to offer driving training for the over-60s, hosting a Pink Ribbon breakfast, and celebrating the Auckland Pride Festival. The community house also took part in the EcoFest, with locals recycling unwanted teacups and turning them into bird feeders.
The school holiday programme is one of the most popular events at Titirangi Community House. Bev says the programme is offered four times a year and provides quality, affordable childcare for working parents within the community.
‘The programme has gone from strength to strength and is always in demand,’ says Bev. Each day, around 40 children aged from 5-13 enjoy a varied programme of days out, sports and games, crafts and cooking activities. Fun is guaranteed as the children make new friends and experience new adventures.
A successful application to the 2023 Your West Support Fund means participants in the school holiday programme will have even more fun. Funding of $936 has been spent on games and sports equipment, including a basketball hoop, indoor footballs, badminton and table tennis sets, plus a whole lot more.
‘Our holiday programme improves our children’s mental and physical wellbeing and teaches them skills to help them grow and be more resilient,’ declares Bev. She says the new sports equipment allows staff to play a huge range of sports. It also ensures plenty of indoor games are available when the weather doesn’t play ball.
Titirangi Community House is gearing up for another action-packed school holiday programme in October. Check out the website for more information. While you’re at it, why not sign up for one of the exciting weekly classes? It’s a great way to meet new people and feel part of the vibrant Titirangi community.
