Support West

What drives us is supporting West Auckland. On this page you can learn more about where the money we distribute goes in your West Auckland community.

The money we distribute comes from profit generated in our retail and hospitality businesses and returns from our investment strategy.

Your Elected Members are responsible for deciding how Support West funds are distributed. They aim to spread the funds across a wide range of groups and organisations, big and small,  whose work supports the community in West Auckland.

Thank you for your support of your Trusts’ stores and venues. Every dollar you spend in our stores means there is more money available to give back to the groups and causes in our community that need support.

When funds are available, your elected members can choose to support special or one-off causes in our community.

Recently, we were pleased to be able to make a one-off special donation to the Special Care Baby Unit redevelopment at Waitakere Hospital. This is a total donation of $2 million which was spread across the 2018/19 and 2019/20 financial years.

Support The Trusts

Your West Support Fund is an initiative that sees $1,000,000 worth of funding from The Trusts distributed to schools, sports clubs, registered charities and incorporated societies helping West Aucklanders.

A selection panel, which consists of elected members from Portage & Waitakere Licensing Trusts reviews the applications we have received to decide which community groups will receive funding.

Applications for Your West Support Fund opened on August the 9th.

Your Trusts support a range of organisations each year with major and minor sponsorships. The groups we support include sports clubs, business associations, the Life Education Trust and local art awards.

Learn more about Sponsorship

Every year we give a range of smaller gifts and donations of cash, product, merchandise and gift vouchers to community organisations to help with prizegivings, fundraisers and filling in all the little extras that these groups need to achieve.

Where trade customers like sports clubs, RSAs or bowling clubs choose to buy product from us at wholesale rates in their bars (they can buy from any wholesaler, but many choose us for our price and friendly service), we can help with a special sponsorship programme to repay their loyalty. It’s all about helping these clubs achieve their best.

If you know a community group that would benefit from a gift, donation or sponsorship like this, then get in touch with us here.

Where The Trusts Money Goes

Every two or three years we distribute free safety gear or useful everyday items to all households in West Auckland. In recent years, your Trusts have distributed:

  • First Aid Kits (2019)
  • Toolkits (2016)
  • Smoke Alarms (2014)

If you have an idea for a useful item that you would like to have considered for future household distributions then let us know by sending an email to

Where The Trusts Money Goes

Your Trusts gave back to almost every West Auckland school through our school support programme in 2018/19.

These were cash contributions towards things that many schools would otherwise be unable to afford, such as scholarships, trophies, books, graduation ceremonies, stationery prizes, photos, Korowai cloaks, updating honours boards and more.

Although these items may seem small, they mean a huge amount to the schools and students in our community who benefit from them. The amounts given vary depending on the type of school (primary, intermediate, secondary) and their roll size.

In 2018, your Trusts gave more than $85,000 to West Auckland schools. View the full list of schools (including the amount they received) below.

A new initiative will see dozens of new car seats donated to families in need, thanks to funding from The Trusts in partnership with Plunket. Police checkpoints in West Auckland will inspect vehicles to ensure children are safely restrained, and if not, a suitable car seat will be provided and installed on the spot free of charge. This will help to keep West Auckland’s youngest residents safe while travelling.
