    Lights, camera, community!

Glass Ceiling Arts Collective delivers inclusive performing arts classes for people from marginalised communities, particularly young people with disabilities. Their weekly classes in Massey (theatre), New Lynn (singing) and Kelston (dance) bring together participants with and without disabilities, alongside siblings and peers, to create together.

Through the 2026 Your West Support Fund round, Glass Ceiling received $20,000 to help deliver these classes across the region. That work culminates each year in a full public production, and this year the cast of 26 performers aged 12 to 31 is preparing to stage Beauty and the Beast Junior at Glen Eden Playhouse Theatre from 3 to 5 September.

The whole cast is super-excited and busy learning lines and songs, says Production Manager Briar Elliott.

Cant wait to see this one.

For many talented rangatahi in The West, university can feel out of reach. Financial pressure, limited family experience with tertiary study, and a lack of professional networks all get in the way of potential.

First Foundation has spent 27 years changing that. Their four-year programme wraps mentoring, workplace exposure, professional networks and pastoral care around students who are often the first in their family to attend university.. More than 100 young West Aucklanders from schools including Kelston Boys High School, Kelston Girls College, Green Bay High School , Lynfield College and Massey High School have been supported to date.

As a community-owned trust, we reinvest our surplus back into The West. Were proud to see $20,000 from the Your West Support Fund backing local students to succeed.

When one young person succeeds, an entire whānau can change direction.
