Well Foundation supports the wellbeing of young people across The West through its mobile dental outreach service. The project received $11,022 through our 2025 Your West Support Fund programme to help improve access to dental care for local children and families.
Working alongside the Auckland Regional Dental Service, the initiative helps bring free dental care directly to children in early learning centres, kōhanga reo, kura kaupapa, marae and community settings across The West. By taking services into the community, the programme removes barriers that can prevent tamariki from receiving the care they need and supports better long-term oral health outcomes.
As part of the funded project, support was provided towards the purchase of a new trailer and generator as well as refreshing the mobile dental van, including replacing the faded graphics on the rear of the vehicle, helping ensure it remains visible and welcoming in the communities it serves. Funding also contributed towards toothbrush and toothpaste packs that are distributed to families identified as being in need, providing practical resources that encourage healthy dental habits at home.
Recently, representatives from The Trusts had the opportunity to see the dental van in person and learn more about the service’s impact across The West. Seeing the mobile clinic up close provided a valuable insight into the important work being undertaken every day to reach children who may otherwise face barriers to accessing dental care. It was inspiring to hear firsthand about the difference the service is making for local tamariki and whānau.
The initiative aligns strongly with The Trusts’ commitment to improving the lives of young people by making essential healthcare more accessible and helping children establish positive oral health habits from an early age. The mobile dental service currently supports thousands of young people across The West and continues to play a vital role in ensuring tamariki can access quality dental care close to where they live and learn.
By making dental care more accessible and supporting families with practical oral health resources, the Well Foundation programme is helping create healthier futures for thousands of West Auckland children.
