Massey Amateur Swimming Club has wrapped its 2025-2026 season, and it’s been one of the club’s best in years.
Run by parent volunteers and coaches for over 40 years, MASC is the kind of community-led club that quietly does the work of getting Massey kids into the water and keeping them there. This season they had 78 swimmers on the books aged 5 to 16, ran 19 weekly sessions of training and Family Fun Nights, and welcomed their biggest intake of tamariki and rangatahi in six years.
By the end of the season, 23% of beginner swimmers (the Aided Orange Level group) had progressed to swimming Un-aided at Green Level across various strokes. Seven coaches, two assistants and four youth coaches in development are now running the programme. A new mobile app for sign-in and timekeeping has cut admin time in half.
The Trusts’ were happy to provide gift cards going toward thanking the volunteers who keep the whole thing running. Parent coaches, committee members, timekeepers, and everyone in between.
‘Your support has made a real difference and helped create a positive, encouraging environment where our swimmers can learn, grow, and enjoy being part of a Community Club,’ says Sue Homan, MASC Chairperson.
