This festive season, The Trusts are proud to sponsor the Justice of the Peace (JP) Christmas Dinner, an event dedicated to recognising the incredible contributions of these quiet champions in our community.

JPs are volunteers who provide essential services that help keep our communities running smoothly. They witness and certify important documents, take statutory declarations, and assist with legal processes that many of us rely on every day. Their work ensures trust, integrity, and accessibility for everyone, often without fanfare or recognition.

West Auckland JPs actively cover six service desks across the region on a two-hourly basis at Citizens Advice Bureaux, libraries, and shopping malls. 2025 has been a busy year, with a definite increase in the number of clients seen. From January to November, recorded stats include:

• Almost 1,000 JP shifts
• More than 17,000 clients served
• 37,000 documents certified
• 8,500 affidavits/statutory declarations taken
• 3,350 signatures witnessed

These numbers highlight the vital role JPs play in making life easier for thousands of people. Their service is free, accessible, and deeply appreciated.

The Support Group was delighted to have three members from the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association join the dinner: Tony Meredith (Support Group Liaison), Bruce Kilminster (Registrar), and Don Graham (Service Desk Coordinator), alongside local JPs Donna Barratt, Sharon (Shaz) Davies, and Christine Shepherd. Together, they bring a combined 90 years of experience, a testament to their dedication and commitment.

This Christmas, we celebrate these everyday heroes of the West for their generosity and service. Strong communities are built on care, and our JPs exemplify that spirit.
