The Trusts are proud to announce our sponsorship of a bold new alcohol harm prevention initiative, led by Community Waitākere in collaboration with WAVES Trust. This project marks a vital step in bringing together West Auckland’s community leaders to tackle alcohol harm from a strengths-based, primary prevention perspective.
With funding support from The Trusts, Community Waitākere and WAVES are undertaking a data gathering exercise to understand better the impact of alcohol harm on West Auckland communities. This work includes engagement with key stakeholders and community voices, seeking to build a comprehensive picture of the issues and opportunities for change. “We’re excited about the opportunity to explore alcohol harm prevention initiatives in West Auckland,” said Kerry Allan of Community Waitākere and Amiria Fletcher of WAVES Trust. “Alcohol harm is intertwined with a range of other issues, including family violence, and we believe that a community-led approach to preventing alcohol harm will help us to improve community wellbeing overall.”
The initiative aims to form a cross-sectoral leadership group that reflects the rich diversity of West Auckland. These leaders will come from across the social services, community, youth, and health sectors, united by a shared commitment to preventing alcohol-related harm before it occurs. Our support reflects The Trusts’ ongoing dedication to fostering the wellbeing of our community, and we’re proud to be enabling a project that takes a holistic, community-led approach to harm prevention, with long-term benefits for whānau across the region. This initiative will shape a strategic and inclusive path forward, grounded in collaboration and focused on creating safer, healthier communities across West Auckland.
