Dale’s (the spider) Return: A Community Vision for Avondale – Your Vote Counts!

The anticipation is building as we prepare for the return of “Dale The Spider” to Avondale. A significant question now faces our community: Where will this unique sculpture find his new home?

Placement on council land necessitates formal Landowner Approval, a process that includes vital community consultation. The Avondale Business Association, while holding ownership of Dale, recognises its integral role within Avondale’s cultural landscape. Therefore, your input is paramount.

To facilitate this decision, visual representations have been developed (see below) showcasing potential placements across our township. We invite you to review these options and cast your vote now (details below), and equally, to contribute alternative site suggestions.

The chosen location should not only provide a suitable platform for “The Spider” but also enhance the surrounding environment. Considerations include accessibility, visual impact, and the potential for integrated lighting solutions, whether through mains power or solar technology. Should the community’s consensus lean towards a permanent removal of “The Spider,” we also welcome this feedback.

When making your choice, consider the following:

  • Which of the proposed locations best complements “The Spider” and Avondale’s character?
  • Are there alternative locations within Avondale that warrant consideration?
  • What are your thoughts on integrating lighting solutions, and are there specific aesthetic or functional considerations?
  • What is your opinion on the long-term presence of the spider within the community?
  • This is a collective endeavor, and your participation is crucial in shaping the future of this public art installation. We aim to ensure that “The Spider’s” return reflects the values and aspirations of our community.
