Auckland’s bustling urban heart is stepping up its efforts to curb alcohol-related issues with the adoption of new, stricter liquor laws. These updated policies mark a significant shift in the city’s approach to managing alcohol consumption and aim to create a safer and more responsible drinking environment.

Portage Licensing Trust (PLT) and Waitakere Licensing Trust (WLT) as The Trusts are committed to reducing alcohol harm in West Auckland. However, like all retail and hospitality operators in Auckland, we must adhere to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and regulatory conditions and do not influence their determination.

We support the new operational changes and have proactively implemented some already, such as store closure times earlier than other regions of Auckland, ceasing the sale of single cans and removing external price promotion signage.

We maintain high standards through rigorous training and compliance, and by paying our staff a living wage. As community representatives, we are committed to prioritising the best interests of our residents. We have actively ensured that West Auckland has not experienced the same level of retail proliferation seen in other areas of Auckland.

Auckland’s new liquor laws represent a crucial step towards a safer and more responsible drinking environment, The Trusts—Portage.
