Rampage Community Hub stands out with its unique approach to fitness training. Unlike traditional gyms, the hub acts as a facilitator and enabler, offering community-led programmes that aim to enhance the health and fitness of The West.
Rampage’s journey began in 2016 when a small group of friends started working out in the car park at WestCity mall during early mornings and evenings. Their dedication and passion soon attracted attention, and the group grew to include up to 80 individuals. Recognising the potential, the management at WestCity provided a space within the mall for the burgeoning gym, and from there, Rampage’s popularity soared.
‘We want to be agents of change at the hub where our facility and community programmes are a way forward for those who have never had the opportunity to unlock their potential,’ advises Rampage’s Chair Nathan Te Miha.
Alongside the gym facility, Rampage also runs free outdoor boot camps in parks across The West. Aptly called Rampage in the Park, these sessions are suitable for all fitness levels and are hugely popular.
Nathan reports that Rampage has also successfully partnered with local kura kaupapa and several local high schools, bringing fitness sessions directly to local communities.
Thousands of Westies have benefitted from Rampage’s central hub and community programme, improving their health and wellbeing.
The Rampage Hub is overseen by the registered charity All Nations Health Fitness and Wellbeing Trust. The Trust Board applied to the 2023 Your West Support Fund
to help buy new fitness equipment. ‘Our programmes are very popular and much of our equipment was worn, tired and on its last legs,’ Nathan advises.
$10,000 has been invested in a range of sports and fitness equipment, including weights, rowing machines, and boxing gear. Nathan says the new equipment has made all the difference. It has helped the organisation continue delivering health, fitness, and wellbeing programmes to existing members and encouraged new ones to get involved.
Unfortunately, at the end of December, the gym based at WestCity closed its door for the final time. Nathan advises that Rampage has outgrown the space and is looking for a new location in the Hobsonville/Westgate area. ‘We are planning to relaunch Rampage in the spring and be fully operational by the summer,’ says Nathan.
Rampage is set to return bigger and better than ever. Keep an eye on the website or follow the Rampage Community Hub on Facebook for all the latest news and updates.
