Since 2018, Pest Free Piha has united locals, volunteers and organisations to tackle predators and invasive weeds. From backyard trap stations to dedicated baiting routes and a major wasp control programme, Piha residents are stepping up. Possums have even been found on Lion Rock, and the team is already on the case with a targeted possum blitz next.

Weed removal is another big focus, with thousands of lupins pulled from fragile sand dunes and native planting underway along local roads. Strong partnerships with mana whenua and community groups ensure the mahi has wide support.

With funding from the Your West Support Fund helping drive action, the vision of a pest-free Piha is coming to life, one trap, one weed, one volunteer at a time.

Thanks to Piha Surf Life Saving Club for sharing a glimpse into the people protecting Westies at one of NZs most dangerous beaches. Stay safe this summer everyone!

Through our Supporters club at The Hangar we were proud to support the all female Latina artists Sur-Collective Dia de las Velitas (Day of the Little Candles) at Corban Estate Arts Centre.

Dia de las Velitas is a beautiful Colombian tradition seeing whānau and friends come together to celebrate the year that was and set intentions for the coming year while lighting a candle. This event was celebrated this year alongside two new exhibition openings in the estates Homestead Galleries, by sharing delicious kai, music, and of course lighting little candles from dusk into the dark.🕯️💃

A wonderful way to end the year together and look forward to the new year ahead, thanks to everyone that took part, and to those who will join us next December🌟
