West Auckland’s Growing Restaurant Scene
Like any suburban area in Auckland, or any developed city in the world, the central city is always a magnet to wine and dine. Throw in a beautiful harbour and hospitality companies line up to open the latest restaurant or bar.
In West Auckland we have our own beautiful scenery, noteworthy eateries and even a few top-class restaurants. The truth is there are plenty of fantastic dining options on our west coast doorstep and the number is growing. So whether you’re into casual dining or fine cuisine, you may be surprised to learn that West Auckland has much to offer.
We’ve been sampling a selection of the great restaurants and cafes available out West, some are our very own great venues.
Why not check out the suggestions below and see what all the fuss is about as you enjoy some fantastic food together with a glass of your favourite wine, beer or spirits.
The Good Home, 159 Lincoln Road – The Trusts owned venue
Surrounded by bookshelves and comfortable chairs, The Trusts’ gastropub The Good Home does indeed feel like a home from home. The only difference though is that the quality of the food is far superior to anything on offer at our house! The wide-ranging menu has lots of firm favourites such as burgers, steaks, pizzas and ribs so there’s plenty to please everyone including vegetarians.
The homely atmosphere means it’s another great choice for families, but the warm welcome on offer and great food make The Good Home perfect for everyone.
The Grounds, 8/14 Henderson Valley Road
Founded by Mike Shatura and Ben Bayly, two local family men who also happen to be pretty useful in the kitchen, The Grounds is set in five acres of lovely parkland in the foothills of the Waitakeres. It even boasts a very cool playground for the littlies to explore while mum and dad enjoy some fine dining and a refreshing glass of sauvignon blanc. Beware though – it gets very busy during the school holidays.
iTi, 421 Titirangi Road – The Trusts owned venue
If tapas-style, small plate dining is your thing then you will love Titirangi’s latest eatery, iTi. Few can resist the Peking duck pancakes and the smoked chipotle pork taco is also a highlight. iTi excels in the range of gluten-free and dairy-free options it offers making it a popular choice for those often-neglected diners with special requirements.
Owned and operated by The Trusts and set in beautiful native bush in the heart of Titirangi, iTi is a very welcome addition to the restaurant scene.
The Brickworks, LynnMall
A new innovation on the restaurant scene is the development of dining areas next to shopping malls. However, The Brickworks dining lane at LynnMall is most definitely not like the food courts of old. In fact, it’s a worthy food destination in its own right. With seven eateries to choose from including Turkish and Greek cuisine from Bodrum Kitchen, the Asian influences apparent at Meso and Wagamama through to the meat-lovers’ favourite Cleaver & Co, there’s something for everyone. Situated in a pretty courtyard with lots of trees and twinkling lights, you can choose to dine inside or enjoy European-style alfresco dining.
Centrally located in New Lynn with its excellent transport links, The Brickworks is also the perfect place for after-work drinks or a catch-up with friends over a couple of beers or a chilled glass of chardonnay.
NorthWest Shopping Centre’s Town Square
The dining options at NorthWest Shopping Centre’s Town Square are not just for the shopper! In fact, with eight independently operated eateries to choose from and a fantastic outdoor setting, the Town Square has become something of an entertainment hub out West. Choose from the family favourite Goode Brothers, the Middle Eastern influenced Casablanca or delectable Vietnamese cuisine at Hansan. And why not try the sushi train at Tomi Ro? Toast a successful shopping trip with a glass of bubbles or relax with friends and enjoy some cold beers, cocktails or a smooth glass of red. What’s more, the Town Square also offers entertainment in the warmer months with outdoor movies, music and special events.
So, next time you are planning a night out with friends or family, why not check out what’s available in your own backyard? You will find there’s plenty to tempt food lovers and gastronomes right here in West Auckland.
