Titirangi Badminton Enjoys New Lighting
Million Dollar Mission funded court lighting has made a dramatic difference at Titirangi Badminton Club. The club successfully applied to the Million Dollar Mission for $11,010 to replace the existing outdated and high maintenance court lighting with new, brighter and energy efficient LED lighting.
“The entire hall is so much brighter,’ says club president, Jody Bishop. As well as improving playing conditions for club members, the new superior lighting also means that the club is saving money on its electricity bills and ongoing maintenance. With around 100 members and a volunteer committee administering the club, membership fees only cover the basic costs needed to keep the club running. There’s very little extra to invest in improvements and upgrades.
The Trusts’ Million Dollar Mission is proud to support clubs, charitable organisations and community groups with help wherever it’s needed and not just those bigger, attention-grabbing projects. For Titirangi Badminton Club the lighting system is the first step towards making the club more modern, efficient and accessible so that more people and groups in the community can get involved.
More than just the funding
The badminton club was also grateful for the exposure and publicity it received in being part of the Million Dollar Mission. The online voting process, in particular, was a great way for the club to reach a much wider audience and they have seen an increase in enquiries as a result.
“The online voting process was excellent and very ingenious,” says Jody. “It enabled all our club members along with friends, family and the wider community to get involved and support our project. We encouraged members daily to vote who then encouraged others to do the same. Being able to watch our target being reached was very exciting.”
“Having this type of process, funding and voting enables excellent promotion within the community of all the wonderful services, clubs and organisations available in West Auckland.”
The members at Titirangi Badminton Club are certainly very pleased with the outcome.
“We would like to thank The Trusts for their support to our club, along with so many other clubs, groups and organisations,” says Jody.
“The Trusts support to everyone is much appreciated, particularly as so many are volunteer based.”
