Fun For All Ages At Glen Eden Bowling Club
Lawn bowls is often seen as a game for the older generation, but a visit to the bustling Glen Eden Bowling Club will soon put paid to that myth! With both competitive and social leagues on offer and players of all ages, there really is something for everyone at the centrally located club.
Fun, sociable and easy to learn, lawn bowls is a sport anyone can play regardless of fitness, age or ability. The bowling season has just got underway at Glen Eden Bowling Club and the club is anticipating another action-packed season ahead.
‘Competitive players can get involved in our club championships or inter-club tournaments,’ advises club representative, Darren Schroeder.
‘And for those interested in social bowls, then there are lots of opportunities to come down and join in with Mates ‘n’ Bowls3Five and a variety of enjoyable events on Friday evenings. These nights are always very sociable and lots of fun!’
Glen Eden Bowling Club was also successful in this year’s Million Dollar Mission, receiving $11,040 to upgrade and replace the outdated air-conditioning units in the club rooms. The newer, more energy efficient units will over time save the club money on electricity bills.
Club members are now looking forward to enjoying cool temperatures during the summer season, as well as nice and warm club rooms during the winter. In fact, bowls is enjoyed all-year round at Glen Eden as the club also has an artificial green as well as floodlights.
Friday nights at the club are always busy with hot food available and a covered BBQ area is a popular spot at social events. The licensed bar operates during all bowls tournaments and opens daily for members during the season.
Available for hire to local groups and organisations as well as private functions, the wider Glen Eden community will also benefit from the improved facilities at the club.
Furthermore, Glen Eden Bowling Club likes to do its bit for charity and recently hosted a very successful Blue Ribbon Tournament in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand. As well as raising over $2,000 for this worthy cause, the tournament also helped to increase awareness of prostate cancer and representatives from support groups shared details of the services available locally. The Trusts was delighted to support the event by donating prizes.
Situated in beautiful surroundings at 25A Glendale Road and with a warm and friendly welcome on offer, it’s no wonder Glen Eden Bowling Club is a popular choice for bowlers out West.
