John Loau Joins Waitākere Licensing Trust Board

The Trusts is delighted to announce the appointment of John Loau to the Waitākere Licensing Trust board.

John brings a wealth of governance experience both in public and private enterprises. Currently, he is the People Leader at Whakarongorau Aotearoa, which provides national telehealth services, including Healthline. The organisation has been at the forefront of the COVID response and also delivers the COVID Healthline and Vaccination Healthline.

It’s a full-on role, but John also finds time to work as a Board Executive and Commissioner for the New Zealand Samoa Trade and Investment Commission. The organisation seeks to promote trade, investment and stronger partnerships between the two countries.

John moved from Samoa to New Zealand as a youngster before immigrating to the US, living in Los Angeles for several years. John returned to New Zealand in 2011. He and his partner moved to Hobsonville Point three years ago, and John very much identifies as a proud Westie.

A man of many talents, John is also a classically trained cellist and enjoys cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Spicy Mexican food is a firm favourite on the menu.

John has always had a strong sense of service and community. So, it was no surprise when he stood for election as a member of the Waitākere Licensing Trust at the last election. He narrowly missed out that time but is excited to be confirmed as a board member following the recent resignation of Andrew Flanagan.

‘The Trusts unique model of giving back to the community really piqued my interest,’ says John.

And as a business advisor with a keen interest in governance, John is looking forward to exploring ways to maximise The Trusts’ operating model even more.

He points out that Hobsonville Point is a new community and doesn’t have the long, shared history with The Trusts as other suburbs in the west.

‘I’m really excited about my appointment,’ declares John. ‘And I’m looking forward to representing the community as well as raising The Trusts’ profile locally,’ he says.

Waitākere Licensing Trust is just as thrilled to have John on board, and we warmly welcome him to the team.
