We work with TTCFL (The Trusts Community Foundation Limited) who owns and operates the gaming machines that are present in some of the venues The Trusts owns. Although we both have “The Trusts” in our name, The Trusts and TTCFL are two completely separate legal entities.
TTCFL owns and operates gaming machines (Pokies) throughout New Zealand under the Gambling Act. It distributes net proceeds back to the community. The Trusts choose TTCFL as the operator as TTCFL returns close to 100% (typically 98-99%) of available funds generated in West Auckland back to the West Auckland community in the form of grants. Our community elected Trustees use their local knowledge to provide recommendations to TTCFL about which grants TTCFL’s funds should go to. Examples of on-going TTCFL initiatives in West Auckland are the donations made to Plunket to support families in West Auckland having a car safety seat and the Academic & Trade Scholarships offered to pupils at 11 high schools in the Waitakere and Portage Licensing Trusts areas. Thousands of local clubs, associations and societies have benefitted from TTCF grants.
For details of these and other major gifts made in West Auckland by TTCFL or to submit an application for grants, visit the TTCFL website http://www.ttcfltd.org.nz/.
The Trusts receive a venue rental for hosting the machines. We are responsible for daily banking, administration and venue operator compliance with the Gambling Act. We ensure our bars & restaurants that have gaming machines are safe, well managed and we have a zero tolerance for problem gambling. All our venue staff receive appropriate training on their responsibilities under the Gambling Act and training to help them recognise problem gamblers. We provide information on site to refer any problem gamblers to specialist help and advice. As part of our ongoing social responsibility we do not have ATMs onsite at our bars and we don’t have large signs out front promoting pokies as you may see in other areas of Auckland.
