About The Portage & Waitakere Licensing Trusts

There are two Licensing Trusts in West Auckland – The Portage & Waitakere Licensing Trusts – both of which were established in the 1970s. In both cases, the people in the two licensing areas voted to control the sale of liquor via a Licensing Trust model. The ongoing retention of that model is subject to the two Trusts retaining ongoing community support.

The West Auckland Trust Services Limited (WATS) was set up in 1996 to bring a commercial focus and expertise to the two Trusts via the management of the business interests of the two Licensing Trusts. Together, the two trusts and WATS are known simply as “The Trusts”.

Waitakere Licensing Trust is in the far-west region running from  Hobsonville and the southern edge of Kumeu in the north to Waiatarua in the south. Glendene and Te Atatu mark the eastern border with the West Coast on the opposite side.
