Sport Waitakere Excellence Awards 2014

0

Nominations are now open for The Trusts Sport Waitakere Excellence Awards. 2014 is Sport Waitakere’s 18th year celebrating sporting excellence in West Auckland. The Awards Dinner will be held on Friday, 28 November, 2014 at The Trusts Arena.

The Awards provide the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the efforts and achievements of Waitakere’s athletes, coaches, administrators, volunteers and officials in their particular sporting code over the past year. The Sporting Acknowledgment Awards are given to those who have made a significant contribution to their respective sporting codes.

There are 16 categories available for nominations in 2014, including two new categories, the Secondary School Athlete Award and the Secondary School Team Award. They are open to any students who are enrolled in a West Auckland Secondary School who have achieved high athletic success, either as a team, or individually.

Last year’s Italian Stone Pacific Island Achievement Award winner, Gabrielle Fa’amausili, has continued her string of impressive performances in 2014. She picked up the Emerging Talent Award at The Halberg Awards in February and in June was named in the New Zealand team to compete at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China later this year. She won the women’s 50m backstroke at the 2014 Oceania Championships, where she was also named as a member of the 2014 Oceania Championship team.

Waitakere has an impressive history of sporting stars, with previous supreme award winners including Beatrice Faumuina, Mils Muliaina, Ray Sefo, DJ Forbes, Martin Guptill and Mahe Drysdale.

Sport Waitakere’s CEO, Lynette Adams, says the support of The Trusts is invaluable. “The Trusts are the naming rights sponsor for the awards. Both organisations have a proud history of ‘giving back’ to the community and The Trusts’ commitment to West Auckland is without doubt. Sport Waitakere is reliant on the support of our partners to enable us to deliver into our community and to make a difference to West Aucklanders through sport and recreation.”

Nominations open 1 July 2014 and close Wednesday 1 October 2014 at 5pm.
