NOTICE OF BY-ELECTION PORTAGE LICENSING TRUST NO.2 (NEW LYNN) WARD

As a result of the recent death of Graeme Ellison, a member of the Portage Licensing Trust No 2 (New Lynn) Ward, an extraordinary vacancy has occurred and a by-election is now required to fill the vacancy.

The by-election will be held on Tuesday 4 November 2014. It will be conducted by postal vote under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001 and the Sale of Liquor Act 1989 and will be undertaken by Independent Election Services Ltd, under contract.

NOMINATIONS
Nominations for the vacancy open on Monday 11 August 2014 and close at noon on Monday 8 September 2014.
Nomination material will be available during this period from:

  •  the electoral office (Independent Election Services Ltd, Level 2, 198 Federal Steet, Auckland);
  •  by downloading here,
  •  by telephoning 09 973 5212 where one will be posted out.

To be eligible to stand for election, a candidate must:

  • be enrolled as a Parliamentary elector; and
  • be a New Zealand citizen; and
  • reside in the respective ward/licensing trust area.

Nominations must be in the hands of the electoral officer at Independent Election Services Ltd, Level 2, 198 Federal Street, Auckland by noon on Monday 8 September 2014.

ELECTORAL ROLLS
Those eligible to vote at the by-election are all residents in the Portage Licensing Trust No 2 (New Lynn) Ward whose names appear on the electoral roll when it closes.
The preliminary electoral roll will be available for public inspection from Monday 11 August 2014 to Monday 8 September 2014 at the electoral office.

VOTING PERIOD
Should the number of candidates exceed the number of vacancies, voting documents will be posted to all eligible electors from Monday 13 October 2014.
The three-week voting period is Monday 13 October 2014 to noon Tuesday 4 November 2014. Electors may post their completed voting documents back to the electoral officer using a pre-paid envelope sent with the voting documents. A polling place for the issuing of special voting documents and for the receiving of completed voting documents will be available from Monday 13 October 2014 to noon Tuesday 4 November 2014 at the electoral office.
To be counted, all completed voting documents must be in the hands of the electoral officer or an electoral official by noon Tuesday 4 November 2014.
Preliminary results will be known as soon as practicable after the close of voting, and will be accessible on The Trusts website (www.thetrusts.co.nz).
