The Trusts NZ Open Bowls Tournament
New Zealand’s top lawn bowlers are heading to Auckland in February for the 2017 Trusts NZ Open. Now in its 10th year the Trusts NZ Open has become one of New Zealand’s largest and most prestigious lawn bowls tournaments and one that attracts the best bowlers from around the country. Once again, The Trusts are the proud sponsors of the tournament.
Blockhouse Bay Bowls is again the tournament headquarters which runs from 14 – 22nd February. Club President Allan Smith said, “We were delighted to have had the opportunity to host The Trusts NZ Open in 2015 and feel privileged to again be headquarters for the tournament in 2017. Blockhouse Bay Bowls has a long association with The Trusts and this is a great chance for residents of West Auckland to see Lawn bowls at its best! We have a wonderful group of volunteers and arrangements are well in hand to ensure players and supporters will enjoy the bowling at our venue”.
Phil Vvyer, Auckland Bowls General Manager said, “The Trusts NZ Open has become one of New Zealand’s largest and most eagerly anticipated tournaments on the lawn bowls calendar. The tournament continues to attract our finest lawn bowlers and is a fantastic event to showcase New Zealand’s bowling talent. We are extremely proud that many of the tournaments previous winners have gone on to represent New Zealand on the international stage, including current World Singles Champion Shannon Mcllroy”.
“This year is also a very important year for our disabled bowlers who will be looking to impress selectors ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth games. “We are delighted that this year’s Trusts NZ Open has attracted its strongest field of disabled bowlers in the tournament’s history. This is testament to the high regard that disabled bowlers have for the Trusts NZ Open.”, Phil said
Phil also thanked the tournament sponsors and volunteers saying, “Auckland Bowls couldn’t possibly run this tournament without the ongoing support of The Trusts and our other sponsors. We would also like to thank our clubs and our tournament headquarters, Blockhouse Bay Bowls, for all their hard work in preparing for the event, in particular all of the greenkeepers, officials, and volunteers who work tirelessly to make the tournament possible.”
The tournament begins on Tuesday 14th February with qualifying rounds played at Blockhouse Bay Bowls and at bowls clubs throughout Auckland. Post section play starts on Friday 17th February at Blockhouse Bay and Sky TV will be broadcasting live coverage of the Finals play on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd February.
